XMM-Newton study of Soft excess X-ray emission in clusters of galaxies
Abstract
We present a systematic study of 14 clusters of galaxies observed with the EPIC cameras of XMM-Newton. In five of these 14 clusters we find evidence for a significant soft X-ray excess above the spectrum of the hot thermal plasma. The cluster origin of this emission is confirmed in some of these clusters by the presence of redshifted O VII emission. We discuss the significance of these findings, the spatial distribution of the excess emission and confront these observations with several theoretical scenario's.
